Democrats, Addicted To Change

The buzzword “change” has been tossed about by candidates of both parties, but it has been mostly associated with Barack Obama and the Democrats. In fact it now seems like the Democrats are addicted to change so much that they vote against their own front runner out of habit rather than conviction. Early in the campaign Hillary was the anointed one. They didn’t like that much so Obama had his own messianic rise to the top.
Apparently that too wasn’t good enough for the blue team. With Hillary Clinton’s recent big victories in Texas and Ohio the race for the Democratic nomination changes yet again. Perhaps the voters are a whimsical bunch on the Democratic side. Perhaps some strategic minded Republicans put Hillary over the top in Texas, as some conservative talk show hosts have suggested. Whatever the reason, this most recent swing shows the Democrats may not only have an addiction, but an identity crisis as well.
As a Democrat should you vote for Obama’s “change” or Hillary’s “experience”. So far it seems there is a split right down the middle. Does this mean John McCain should rejoice? Hardly. Hillary’s recent primary victories serve up a potential Obama/Clinton combination platter dream ticket. It is too soon to tell who will stand atop that ticket, but in either case it is potential doom for McCain.
Of course, it is up to the Democrats to succeed in cooking up this dream ticket. Never underestimate a candidate’s ego starting a fire in the kitchen turning the dream into a nightmare for their party and to the delight of McCain and conservatives everywhere. The Democrats don’t have a great track record of late in capitalizing on the fallout of ineptness from the Bush administration and his neo-conservative cronies.
They were elected in 2006 to bring the troops home from Iraq. They failed. They continue to vote to fund the war, giving in to GOP politics, rather than the logic that you can still support the troops without supporting and funding the Bush doctrine of nation building and preemptive war.
I’m very far from being a Democrat, but even I can see the great potential they have with their two candidates. The only logical move is for them to join together to fire up their socialist nanny-state tax the rich minions. Of course, they are at odds with their own recent history. Their “change” addiction may require some kind of intervention or 12 step program because relying on logic alone is not one of their strengths.
