Okay, the Truth is not exactly Breaking News but read House Concurrent Resolution 362 anyway. The March Towards Hell Continues.

Michael Scheuer gave a moving speech with practical solutions about the Wars on Terrors at the Revolution March last weekend.
Here is an excerpt:
“There is not a nickel’s worth of difference between President Bush and former president Clinton; between Senator McCain and Senator Obama; between Speaker Pelosi and Mayor Giuliani, or between any of the foregoing and their pro-empire, Israel-first cheerleaders at the Council of Foreign Relations, the National Endowment for Democracy, and the America-Israel Political Action Committee. They are all rank and reckless interventionists, bent on involving America in other peoples’ wars and content to see our republic destroyed by their ego-building and democracy-crusading military adventures overseas.”
When I heard it for the first time, I agreed but thought it was a little strong to compare Pelosi with Giuliani. Then I remembered Pelosi’s semi-treasonous speeches to the Israeli AIPAC lobby , and the failure of the Democrats she leads to stop the Wars after being elected to do so in 2006. Then I saw this alert from Pat Buchanan titled “A Phony Crisis ” about Iran. In it, he complains that one of Pelosi’s goons, Rep. Gary Ackerman D-NY has introduced a bill, House Concurrent Resolution 362 proposing to blockade Iran. And 220 Democratic Goons and Neocons in the House have endorsed it! (Translation: This is a 50.5% majority, this bill is going to PASS! Don’t you love democracy! ) While I wrote a long time ago that the Bush administration already declared Financial War on Iran, which most Dems supported, I did not think the Dems would be so brazen to foist a warmongering piece of trash like this:
“Now, therefore, be it that Congress… urges the President, in the strongest of terms, to immediately use his existing authority to impose sanctions on (A) the Central Bank of Iran and any other Iranian bank engaged in proliferation activities or the support of terrorist groups; (B) international banks which continue to conduct financial transactions with proscribed Iranian banks ; (C) energy companies that have invested $20,000,000 or more in the Iranian petroleum or natural gas sector in any given year since the enactment of the Iran Sanctions Act of 1996; and (D) all companies which continue to do business with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps;
[Congress] demands that the President initiate an international effort to immediately and dramatically increase the economic, political, and diplomatic pressure on Iran to verifiably suspend its nuclear enrichment activities by, inter alia, prohibiting the export to Iran of all refined petroleum products; imposing stringent inspection requirements on all persons, vehicles, ships, planes, trains, and cargo entering or departing Iran; and prohibiting the international movement of all Iranian officials not involved in negotiating the suspension of Iran’s nuclear program; and urges the President to lead a sustained, serious, and forceful effort at regional diplomacy to support the legitimate governments in the region against Iranian efforts to destabilize them, to reassure our friends and allies that the United States supports them in their resistance to Iranian efforts at hegemony , and to make clear to the Government of Iran that the United States will protect America’s vital national security interests in the Middle East.”
My brief reply is as follows. First, CONGRESS ALREADY DECLARED FINANCIAL WAR on Iranian banks and threatened any European or other banks that do business with them way back in March! And as for C+D, anyone willing to bet we didn’t already sanction that?
Second, just a translation. Since Iran has little refining capacity of its own, we are threatening to shut off their energy supply – sort of like Russia taking over our refineries on the coasts to block transport. Then we want to search everyone and thing entering or leaving Iran (great we can then send TSA over there to confiscate THEIR toothpaste, contact lens solution, and water bottles to protect THEM from the Terrorists!) THEN we want to block all Iranian government officials from going anywhere, even to say, Iraq for some dates and camel’s milk to discuss how are they ever going to get rid of these silly Infidels with all the guns.
Lastly, I just have to say my bed is shaking as I shiver in fright under my covers at the big, bad Iranian Hegemon-Pokemon. Hello, UNITED STATES! LOOK IN A MIRROR!
On a more lucid note, besides the usual suspicions that Israel controls America’s foreign policy, I fear that Iran’s decision to open an Oil Bourse trading in euros and yen, which they certainly have a right to do, with or without our Financial War Sanctions, is a kiss of death for America’s servicemen-and-women as well as a lot of Iranians to die. Hope to document this in more coherent detail in a future column. As Scheuer said on Saturday, We the People are powerless to stop these Wars unless we speak out . For instance, who doesn’t think that the United States would immediately go to war in Saudi Arabia if that lovely police state had, say, a civil war that disrupts “our oil” supply.
In case you are looking for something to do about this, here are a few quick ideas –
1) Spend 1 Minute to leave the Dems and Join Ron Paul’s www.campaignforliberty.com
2) The bill hasn’t passed yet, and the vote may still be close! Tell your warmongering Democratic representative and senator what you think by joining www.downsizedc.org . Select one of the form letter topics on Iran and add a little personal flair and send them a letter. Or just call them up.
3) Don’t waste your time asking McCain or Obama to help you. They won’t.
4) Ask the closest Democratic friend you have, just who do the Democrats think they are, flaunting the Constitution like the Neocons!
4) Are you really a Patriot? Watch Ron Paul’s stirring speech on the House floor, “In the Name of Patriotism ”

One of the most remarkable things about this awful Resolution, HCR 362, is the complete silence which it has been accorded by the press!
This resolution was introduced in late May, and had over 100 Co-sponsors by June 19, when the blog Daily Kos, followed soon by the rest of the alternative press, broke the story. Thousands of people knew about it by then, including every member of Congress, yet searches on news.google.com and news.yahoo.com indicate that not one news report had appeared anywhere! Wire service UPI carried a story on it on July 7, which was not picked up by any major news organ, and as of today, July 17, it still hasn’t been covered or even mentioned by any of the networks or national dailies, although it could come to a vote at any time now! Its only mention in the mass-circulation media has been two opinion pieces on Yahoo News by Pat Buchanan, on June 27 and July 15, and an interview by bill sponsor Gary Ackerman on CBS News website (no indication that it was aired), denying that the bill means what it says.
How is this possible? Is it a conspiracy? Or is this just the normal way the way the major media operates? Or then again, does the normal way the media operates constitute an ongoing conspiracy? Let’s look at some more evidence.
The total news blackout on HCR 362 is unusual. (At least it’s the only one I’ve found over the last three months, but then, if the news blackout is total, how could one be sure?) But near-total news blackouts on stories, and blackouts complete enough that it is obvious that most people will not see or read the news, are fairly common. We’re talking stories that any reasonable person would agree were news of national interest that an informed public ought to know. Among the stories that I have determined were given this treatment over the past three months are:
* Ron Paul’s win of 26% of the vote in the Idaho Republican Primary.
* Ralph Nader declaring for Impeachment of Bush on the White House lawn.
* Obama’s declaration that he would review all of Bush’s signing statements and regulations and strike down any he found to be unconstitutional or repugnant.
* Putin’s declaration that Iran is not working on a nuclear bomb.
* Iraqi Prime Minister’s rejection of US terms for a security pact (covered eventually),
* HCR 362 calling for a blockade of Iran.
* Kucinich introduces 35 Article of Impeachment on House Floor.
* Barr’s anti-war platform on the occasion of his nomination by the Libertarian Party.
* “Democrats to back down on Iraq war conditions”
* Iran offers to include participants from other countries in its uranium enrichment program.
* Steelworkers Union merges with giant British/Irish union to form first global union.
Those are just the stories that I found, with a few hours of my spare time, over just three months. Looking through this list makes clear that this is not a left-right issue or a Republican-Democratic issue. This is about suppression of stories from any source that could lead people to reject the Empire’s war plans or stand in its way. It is routine, nearly invisible and evidently coordinated, although by whom and how is unknown. Nor is it a left-right or highbrow-lowbrow split within the media. If FOX, CNN and the Washington Times are in on a news blackout, without exception so are The NY Times, the Post and NPR! Many of these stories were carried by wire services and were widely covered in Europe!
The most striking exception, the one national news source that was most likely to carry a silenced story, is Yahoo News. Rumor has it that whoever succeeds in the corporate battle to take it over will spin off the news department to Murdoch’s News Corporation. In any case I have never seen MSNBC or msn news break ranks on a silenced story.
Anyone, left, right or center, who stands for democracy and the defense of the Constitution and who opposes the takeover of our country by forces committed to unlimited war and intervention in support of the Empire, has an interest in finding a way to get the news that the media moguls don’t want us to see out to the tens of millions. I believe that we will be best served in this by doing it without picking and choosing which stories “we” want the people to see. Let the media moguls define that. If they don’t want the people to see a story, then they probably should.
