Glenn Beck Calls Ron Paul ‘The Biggest Libertarian Figure…’

In Glenn Beck’s CNN.com commentary yesterday regarding who he may vote for in the upcoming Presidential election he had some interesting words about Ron Paul.
In case you’re having trouble keeping track; here’s a primer. There’s the ever-present Ralph Nader, who is usually good for a percent (and a laugh) or two. Bob Barr, the former Republican congressman, will likely get more votes than any libertarian in history. While he might make the difference in a state or two, the biggest libertarian figure on the planet, Texas Rep. Ron Paul, seems equally likely to endorse Chuck Baldwin, the Constitution party candidate.
This along with the recent love-fest style appearance by Ron Paul on both Beck’s radio and television shows indicate that Beck today would not be treating Ron Paul, had he maintained his Presidential bid, as the “joke” he made him out to be during last year’s campaign. Winning over those like Glenn Beck is what the Campaign For Liberty is all about.
There’s even been some hinting around that Glenn Beck may be asked to speak at Ron Paul’s alternate convention, the “Rally For The Republic” in Minneapolis on September 2nd. Now that would impressive.

The Campaign for Liberty shouldn’t be in any hurry to ask Glen Beck to speak. He could get booed, since he’s still thought of as a Neocon, which he is, unless he’s had a recent change of heart. Glen Beck would be unlikely pick to speak. He’s not onboard to that extent.

Glenn Beck would be an exciting addition, despite the fact that he doesn’t agree with Paul on foreign policy. Provided his presentation was focused on the common principles of limited government that both of them espouse, I would hope the Paul fans would be respectful. While I myself disagree with Beck on some issues (most of all the war), I highly respect him as an individual. Most of all, he is leaning more into the direction of Campaign for Liberty principles as he continues to read, learn, and observe. I’ve been watching and listening to him for a while, and I’ve been impressed with the evolution of his thought over that time. The foreign policy difference is by far the toughest position for most people to understand and change, but now that Paul has earned some credibility with his economic views, perhaps people (like Beck) will respect him enough to attempt to understand his view on foreign policy. At some point conservatives have to recognize that the anti-war conservatives/libertarians have some legitimate reasons to oppose the war, and that it’s okay to respectfully disagree with that position. The important thing is that we have the discussion, something that hasn’t been allowed to happen within the Republican Party in this case.
What I DO see as a hang-up, is that I don’t see Beck participating in an event alongside Ventura, since they had a little spat at one point and Beck trashed him on his show (of course, he trashed Paul at one point too). My personal opinion is that having Ventura was a mistake just because he is now affiliated with the 9/11 truth movement.
All that said, I would really love the opportunity to see Glenn Beck contributing to this cause, and I would relish the chance to see him speak in person. I hope he is there, though I doubt it will be the case.
