A plea to readers on the passing of the Paulson Plan, Ron Paul’s Congressional statement today, my recommended actions to take, and in support of BJ Lawson for Congress. BONUS: Contains link to and discussion on the 442-page bailout’s pork!
As you may be aware at 2 PM yesterday the US House of Representatives passed the Paulson Plan. By 3 PM, President Bush signed this bill into law, and the central banks and investment bankers everywhere can take a sigh of relief for 1-2 months (in my estimation). It will be academically interesting to see if the banks do start offering credit again; I actually doubt it. I wrote why I opposed this bill here “SENATE PASSES BAILOUT! And What to Do, NOW! (New Update from Vern McKinley)“. The names of the economic morons who passed this bill in the House today are listed here.
As a reminder, the House had voted down the 110-page HR 3997 bill on Monday, September 29, but the Senate speedily amended HR 1424, which was ironically initally named “Paul Gladston Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act of 2007.” As I wrote the Senate and McBama added in some pork intended to sway the Republicans who had killed HR 3997. What is amazingly is the amount of pork. The Senate added 332 pages! Don’t believe me? Read it here.
Forget the VP Debate, it was for the birds! Besides the upcoming Break the Matrix Third Party Debate, you can have this debate right now! Let me show you with my Sarah Palin and Ralph Nader example. Plus an idea to change American politics for millions of young Americans with viral media.
<< For those unaware, please read George Dance’s critical article “Third-party debate in early October” on the upcoming Third Party Debate in early October. Date is not yet announced. >>
Fellow columnist Jonathan Cymberknopf reported in his late September article “Ralph Nader and Bob Barr banned from the media” that the media has stopped covering the Third Party tickets who have a mathematical chance to win, and this does indeed seem to be the case. These candidates in alphabetical order are:
He is mostly correct; the mainstreammedia is completely ignoring these candidates. However, viral media has the potential to take the third party’s message to millions, spreading far TRUER democracy, and revealing the current election of McBama as the staged sham that it truly is. The cool facet about it is that if it starts, its spreads like wildfire because everyone shares with everyone else. On the flip side, there is only one month left, but with the financial world reeling, McBama-supported idiotic bailouts and bank failures galore, there is a real chance this could have a lasting effect on American politics for a long time to come, if it is done correctly. Here is the idea.
Elizabeth MacDonald (EMAC) of FOX Business News has published another article speaking rather glowingly of our favorite Congressman from Texas, Ron Paul. I found myself reading it thinking this could have easily been a post on The Daily Paul or RonPaulForums, the two grassroots havens for the Paul faithful. It seems we have a true Ron Paul supporter within the walls of FOX News. She writes:
If there’s anyone in Congress who should feel like he has been shouting into a field of cotton, it should be Texas congressman Ron Paul (R-Tex.).
And sometimes a journalist just needs to yield the platform for once, for God’s sakes, to someone who is trying to bring some common sense to the debate.
Because God knows we t.v. gasbags have done enough, doing our part to add to global warming, taking out Arctic glaciers on a daily basis.
T. Boone Pickens, who now advocates a major wind energy plan, should realize that the Central Bank of Wind, the Saudi Arabia of Wind is not Tornado Alley–it’s stretches from right here in media land in New York City down to outside the halls of Congress.
Yes, Dr. Paul has been criticized and ridiculed. By those who live in an echo chamber and don’t give anyone except those who agree with themselves a fair hearing. It’s time to listen to all points of view, because we are living through one of the rare times when the landscape of this economy could be permanently changed.
Which candidate across this nation is most like Ron Paul? For many, the answer is clear: B.J. Lawson, a Congressional candidate for North Carolina’s 4th District. In fact, B.J. Lawson recently won the inaugural Liberty Straw poll by an overwhelming margin (better than a 4 to 1 margin over the runner-up).
Today, Ron Paul sent out a message supporting B.J. Lawson’s campaign:
Dear Friend,
A lot of folks have begun calling B.J. Lawson the next Ron Paul. The comparison is very flattering. . . for me.
For those who are not yet familiar, B.J. Lawson is a wonderful young candidate running for Congress in North Carolina’s Fourth Congressional District. B.J. is a medical doctor, family man, Constitutionalist and a fierce defender of individual freedom. We need B.J. Lawson in Congress to stand beside me in the fight for liberty, and against the corporate socialism that has overtaken our economy!
B.J. is running against an entrenched big government liberal who voted for the $700 billion taxpayer bailout of Wall Street and has a long history of voting for huge spending, raiding your social security trust fund for pet projects, and even voted for the Patriot Act.
A recent poll shows B.J. Lawson within striking distance in this election, but he needs your help!
B.J. needs $250,000, right away, to run the campaign he needs to take this race right down the the wire. I know that if we band together, we can help him get the money he needs.
I am asking you, as a fellow Defender of Liberty, to mark the four week countdown to this November’s election and join with me and donate to B.J. Lawson’s campaign this Tuesday, October 7th. I know times are tough, but that is all the more reason why we need to send a message and help B.J. Lawson.
This one-day “Money Bomb” could be what it takes to propel the next Ron Paul into Congress. I hope you will join me to support B.J. Lawson with your on-line contribution this Tuesday, October 7th.
Sincerely,
Ron Paul
Please consider supporing B.J. Lawson if you can. The more liberty-minded politicians we elect to Congress, the better off we’ll all be.
Here is audio of Ron Paul’s short speech against the bailout bill delivered a few minutes ago on the floor of the House of Representatives. He argues, yet again, that we should let the market have a say. Let the bankruptcies occur, and let the good assets rise to the top. Amen Dr. Paul. Amen.
John McCain, Barack Obama, and the rest of the DC status quo are now exposed by Ron Paul’s “I told you so” and by the elephant sized pork sitting right there for all to read in the 451 pages of the Senate bailout bill. I’ve written recently how they don’t even try to hide it anymore. Instead they acknowledge the pork exists they then throw up their arms and say, “I disagree with it but, oh well, what can you do?” How about having some principle for a change?
John McCain speaks incessantly about reducing earmarks and “pork barrel spending”, but when it comes down to actually voting against it suddenly it becomes a necessary evil. Christopher Dodd reacted the same way today on CNN changing the subject and reiterating how important it is to pass the bailout bill (I refuse to call it a rescue bill).
Now the bill is being painted as a savior for the “credit crisis”. I wrote my Congressman here in Virginia, Frank Wolf, strongly encouraging him to vote against the bailout bill. He voted for it. I received a 5 page letter from him in the mail today full of excuses about why he voted for it. The general tone of the letter was “I know more than you do about this, so trust me, we need this bailout.” Also in the letter was this surprisingly accurate admission, “Access to credit is the lifeline of our economy.” This is so true it hurts.
Our entire financial and monetary system is fundamentally based on credit/debt/loans. Dollars are either printed out of thin air or loaned into existence courtesy of the Federal Reserve and fractional reserve banking. The more dollars out there, the less value those dollars have. As your dollars decline in value so does your standard of living.

Here’s Ron Paul continuing his opposition to the bailout bill. He reiterates that the people in his district are 9 to 1 against the bailout. The host attempts to minimize the negative impact of the bailout and Ron Paul argues the opposite, of course. Watch it below.
There aren’t many people opposed to the bailout who oppose it for the right reasons, but both Ron Paul and Bob Barr (whether they are still on speaking terms or not) do oppose it for the right reasons. Ron Paul has been utilizing his Campaign For Liberty mailing list and web site to urge his 100K plus activist supporters to contact their representatives in opposition to the bailout bill. Paul has also appeared on numerous media outlets in recent days beating the drum that no bailout means a year of recession and passing the bailout means a possible decade of recession.
Yeah, it would be fun if Ron Paul could be the replacement moderator for the Vice Presidential debate this evening, but as George Stephanopoulus would say, “That’s not going to happen”. The actual moderator, Gwen Ifill from PBS, has been accused of holding a bias for Barack Obama due to her authoring a book praising the ground breaking candidate. She refuses to accept the accusations of bias and will forge ahead with moderating the debate between hockey mom Sarah Palin and DC lifer Joe Biden.
Biden has a long reputation for making brazen statements that often get him in trouble. Palin has made her share of “mistakes” in her short time in the public eye as well. It is safe to say that there may be some verbal fireworks at the debate tonight. The McCain campaign has done its best to downplay the expectations of Palin in the debate, but from my perspective it is Biden who has more to lose. Biden must tread carefully with his words so he does not come off as being sexist or domineering. We’ll see tonight.
Won’t you join us for our second live blogging event? The last one morphed into a chat room more than a live blog, but it was enjoyable and we received positive feedback so we are doing it again. Feel free to participate below beginning at 8:45pm Eastern tonight. The debate begins at 9pm Eastern.
